Description

Stunning big wooden LWALA mask, Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa. 
Wood, handcarved and dark painted. Triangular face form with elegant straight nose, round mouth and rectangular eyes. Rests of kaolin around the eyes and the mouth. On the lower board of the helmet fine geometrical handcarved decorations. The mask can be dated around to the first half of the 20th century.
Conditions: very good conditions with few of use and age. Under the chin a crack and traces of an old  restauration.
Height  41 cm, width 23 cm, depth 16 cm. 

Provenience/Provenance: The mask derives from a old private german collection from Frankfurt.

Beschreibung

Besonders schöne, große Holzmaske der LWALA, Demokratische Republik Kongo, Afrika. Holz, handgeschnitzt und dunkel gefasst. Dreieckiges Gesicht mit eleganter gerade Nase, rundem Mund und rechteckigen Augen. Reste von Kaolin um die Augen und den Mund. Auf dem unterem Rand des Helmes feine handgeschnitzte geometrische Dekorationen. Die Maske kann in die erste Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts datiert werden. 

Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand mit wenigen Gebrauchs- und Altersspuren. Unter dem Kinn einen Spannungsriss und Spuren einer älteren Restaurierung.

Höhe 41 cm, Breite 23 cm, Tiefe 16 cm.

Provenienz: Die Maske stammt aus einer alten deutschen Privatsammlung aus Frankfurt.
